For many women being fully heard and understood is rare so our initial objective when people reach out to us is to ensure they know they are in a safe space, able to talk openly (sometimes for the first time) about the nature and nuances of the abuse they have been suffering.
...but we do more than just listen!
The Unchained Phoenix has been built from first hand experience and so everyone here knows how valuable being able to speak to someone who truly gets it can be. However we also know that for most women there are a lot of practical questions that need answering. Without guidance about HOW to break free and what rights a survivor of abuse has it can feel like wading in the dark.
We offer signposting to local groups around the UK that are on the ground and therefore able to help with the nitty gritty like legal or housing issues, forms and other local procedures that offer a path to freedom. While we cannot do all of these elements, Unchained Phoenix offers continuous, consistent support throughout the process, which can sometimes feel daunting. We want women going through abuse to never feel alone. It takes an enormous amount of bravery to break free from an abuser - and it is often an extremely complicated process either from a practical perspective or an emotional one, or sometimes both.
For those who take this bold step out of the abusive situation, we at the Unchained Phoenix know how much support a woman needs and deserves at this crucial time of readjustment.
Unchained Phoenix offers peer support and therapeutic programmes to aid recovery. Devised from a strong appreciation of the nature trauma plays on the mind and body of someone who has experienced abuse, our support groups and 1:1 sessions are deeply healing and empowering. Our goal is to help women reclaim their lives after abuse.
We have seen so many success stories we know our approach works and we are excited about entering this new chapter as a C.I.C. as we will be able to support and empower even more women.
